We had our first landing at Paulet Island and first landing on Antarctica continent at Brown Bluff. The theme of the day was Adélie penguins.
We landed at King George Island after 2 hours flight from Punta Arenas. We were taken to the ship by zodiacs. Our Antarctica cruise officially started.
Torres del Paine is often considered to have the best hiking trails in the world. Unfortunately, because of the stormy weather, we didn't make any meaningful attempt. After all, visiting TDP was only an overture of a grander journey.
This was the most eventful day of all our travel trips, but there is nothing more rewarding than watching the unbeatable sunset view surrounded by the signature landscape of Torres del Paine National Park.
Punta Arenas is the southernmost city of Chile. Sitting by the Strait of Magellan, it had been a booming town before Panama Canal was constructed. Today's Punta Arenas is a quiet city and a tourist hub of Chilean Patagonia region.
In hindsight, we feel that we were so over prepared because we had some very mild weather in Antarctica. However, volatility is the nature of the Antarctic weather. You should prepare for the worst.
